I had written her an email and while I did I took an inhale
Deeply, sending it to an address that I had gathered, years ago,
She was consulting when I knew her, so I sent the email to her,
Just flying, subject as follows, 'Thought of you, give this a go.'

And an answer came directed in a writing unexpected,
(And I think the same was written by a bot from lands afar)
'Twas her server that had sent it, and verbatim I will quote it:
'She's away, away forever and we don't know who you are.'

In my coffee-arvo dreaming, visions show me this young lady
In her fancy start-up business showing others how it goes;
In her scarlet suit-top swinging, she's always almost singing,
For the consultant's life has pleasures that the wagies never know.

And the biz has friends aplenty, and a companion in a mentee,
In the hubub of the city and the office under lights,
And her influence is growing in the small fishpond a-flowing
And at night she dreams the dreaming of woman strong in flight.

I am sitting in my dingy little office, where a stingy
Ray of sunlight struggles feebly down between the houses tall,
And the glowing lights and blue of the digital smokescreens old and new 
Burn my eyes as I stare at them, infected with a gloomy thrall.

And in her absence I must wonder, is her business torn asunder
Rift by damage unforeseen and not felt until it was too late?
Killed by carelessness or ego, pick your poison and off we go,
Chasing newbies not the oldies with a expensive throw of bait.

And the marketers are dauting, with their lingo flung, flaunting
A knowledge of the "spaces" that only they can know
With their eager eyes and greedy, and their campaigns dense and weedy,
For marketers have no time for loyal when there's coming a new beau.

And I somehow rather hope she did fall, crash down stall, see
Sometimes it takes a fail to learn just how to grow,
While those creating "loyal" tread the path that's much more royal - 
But I doubt they'd feel the envy of the others who are all show.
