Wtf is this email doing in my inbox?

Here’s a bit of a story for you.
On a cold evening recently, I was combing the internet looking for some uplifting meditation-type things.
It took me ages to filter out the bollocks, refine my searches, and eventually get to something that looked useful.
That piece of useful was a lead magnet: One page of simple activities.
Perfect! Thinks I.
The website popped up a form, which I expected, and I filled it in thinking it would address itself to me.
But then, something weird happened.
The thankyou page redirected to something about a course, and didn’t tell me whether or not I got the thing I signed up for.
So, I shifted my attention to my email.
Phew! The thing was there.
But so, too, was another email.
From the same guy.
At the same time.
And it wasn’t a thanks, either.
Bodes ill, doesn’t it?
Furrowing my brow, I stared for a moment before reaching out my forefinger and tapping the screen to open it.
Inside that email, pixieling, was a great screed about that course I mentioned above(!), and how I’m going to get a whole lot of things I never wanted, and how great it’s going to be –
‘Not on my time, you won’t,’ I muttered while I unsubscribed.
While I don’t usually give feedback when I unsub, this time I did:
I never signed up for this list.
Because I didn’t: I downloaded a discrete thing, and that thing never told me about a list.
This guy promptly destroyed any trust he’d created.
Of course, I’m sure he gets a lot of great business this way. But I bet he’d get a whole lot more of he was honest, upfront, and above all, clear at the point of opt-in.
People really are enormously forgiving, you know? They’ll ignore all kinds of things.
But not when you sell them up the river and are duplicitous in your actions.
Honesty and integrity are vital components of trust.
This is why, if you’re not sure whether what you’re creating is ripe for building the foundations of a trusting relationship with prospects and clients, I want you to go to https://zipmessage.com/leticiamooney and tell me about it, right now.
I’ll come back to you with up to three improvements, which you can action immediately.
For free.
But this offer is only valid until 12.01am Monday.
Leticia “don’t surprise me, mofo” Mooney
