Today is Number Wun!

From the friendly caves of Pixie Hollow.

First birthdays are not about the kids turning wun, but about the parents having kept said puppy alive without killing each other in the process.

Hi, my name's Leticia and I'm a first-time mum, of a (now) one-year-old toddler.

His birthday party was Saturday and to his credit, he stayed awake from 10.45 am until 7.30 pm, without cracking a fruity. He's such a people person!

One of the most amazing things was seeing him just going out the door, in the door, out the door, in the door, out the door, in the door... And being totally cool with whoever was on the balcony at the time. Most people just returned his smiles and laughs, and made sure he didn't faceplant on his exits.

It reminded me of the way in which many businesses approach sale content, specifically.

The trouble with sales is that they train your clientele to expect discounts.

Clients wait until the major sales cycles of each year before they buy.

Stores like JB Hi-fi have perpetual sales. You know, when I was competing with JB for album sales, we were purchasing stock for the same price? The purchase price of new CDs was about $3. So I could sell for $9 and make a profit (drop-shipped). JB were retailing theirs for $35 on average, at the time.

The challenge with building a brand with a luxury feel is that luxe brands never discount.

The theory goes that they're exclusive and expensive for a reason, and clientele buys into that story and that tradition.

The story about sales inside your business might feel irrelevant if you're a service business, like a law firm. But it's not at all irrelevant. It's only irrelevant if you decide it's irrelevant. But if you've just never really thought about it, make a decision. Will you discount or not? And if you do, how?

Document it.

Remember:

Docs, or it didn't happen.

Which brings me to The great Berening.

I plonked it on you yesterday and then ran away.

But I decided that a year running at a wildly different pace deserved some kind of explosive celebration.

So here we are.

Today is Day One of the Great Berening.

And with it you can get 3 case studies for just $2900, which is more than four thousand dollars cheaper than usual.

But you gotta be quick; the deal expires at midnight!
